SNOBSWAP is an online marketplace where fashion enthusiasts
can shop, consign, or swap luxury, brand name and vintage secondhand clothing
and accessories. Recessionistas are the
new fashionistas so save money on that much coveted top by visiting SNOBSWAP!!
I had the pleasure of meeting Emily Dang, co-founder of
SNOBSWAP, during San Francisco’s Fashion Week at Citizen Space, for an event orchestrated by Fashion+Tech SF, showcasing up and coming fashion internet entrepreneurs
. I was thrilled at the
opportunity to pick Emily’s brain about the conception of SNOBSWAP, her advice
for budding fashionistas, as well as her take on San Francisco fashion. Please enjoy our Q&A and if you are
yearning to know more about SF Shop Girl, visit SNOBSWAP’s ‘Stylist Blog’ to find out! :)
How was the idea for SNOBSWAP conceived?
I was
on a hunt for a pre-loved CHANEL bag and wished there was a website
where members could swap or sell their designer items. Elise approached
me with this new idea and I was immediately on board, especially since
like most women, I had the perpetual problem: a closet full of clothes
and nothing to wear. We built SNOBSWAP from the ground-up, from design
to it's official launch. We've loved every minute of it.
In what ways do you see yourselves developing your brand over the next few years?
We
plan on continuing to grow nationally and internationally! We're very
excited at how quickly we've grown so far and thrilled to see what's to
come. Social media and word of mouth has been crucial to our growth.
And we love that our customers represent all different cities across the
US. Our members know best and we'll continue to strive to meet their
needs, to make shopping on SNOBSWAP the ultimate experience and access
to the best designer items.
SNOBSWAP is currently operating out of Washington D.C. and San
Francisco, CA. How do the fashion scenes in these two metropolitan
cities differ?
DC and SF have very different fashion
styles, and I love both! SF is more laid-back, trendy with a casual
twist. DC fashion scene has evolved and is more classic but with a
young, fresh vibe.
Do you have any advice for fashionistas, like myself, who are trying to make it in this industry?
I
would say continue to network and meet others in the industry like
you're doing now :) And gain as much experience in the fashion world,
even if that means starting from the bottom. And if that doesn't work,
try try again. I love that saying "Fall down 7 times, get up 8".
I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Fashion + TechSF event last month and I was immediately struck by how well you were put together. Who influences your personal style?
Thank you! My fashion icons are Kate
Moss, Olivia Palermo, Audrey Hepburn, and Rachel Bilson. I love a very
feminine and fun look :)
What are three of your must have items currently in the SNOBSWAP marketplace?
I am obsessed with this classic rouge Birkin bag. Also in love with these satin blue Manolos as worn by SJP in SATC, and finally this super sexy Azzedine Alaia boots.
