TopCoat-Nail Art At Your Service

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Ali Wiezbowski, the founder of the newly minted nail art company, TopCoat, has such an entrepreneurial spirit and an unparalleled drive that will undoubtably make her new venture an overwhelming success.  I had the pleasure of being introduced to Ali via Instagram (I know, I know), but we immediately bonded over our obsession with nail art as well as our desire to seek professional happiness by leveraging our passion to create business opportunities.  Having worked as an Executive at Microsoft for years, spearheading their social media platforms, Ali really has a deep understanding of the power of engagement, developing strategies, and creating results driven content.  She has taken her years of corporate marketing perspicacity and partnered them with her new endeavor to produce an enormous amount of buzz surrounding the launch of TopCoat.  I was very intrigued to learn more about the conception, implementation, and benefits of being on this unique platform, so I sat down with Ali to learn more.

Here's what she had to say...

How did you come up with the idea for TopCoat?

I'd been noticing nail art pop up every day on various social media outlets around February 2012.  So I had witnessed it online first, then started seeing it "on the streets" once I started looking in the states, but nail art certainly wasn't in the spotlight as it is now. What was astounding was that once you were aware of nail art, you started seeing it everywhere. Through continued online research, that's when I found out that some of the most popular girls were in London.  I coincidentally had a trip booked there last summer, and "when in Rome", set out to secure an appointment. Unfortunately, the point of approach for securing a time slot was primarily through g-mail, so as you can imagine, hammering out  details became a very cumbersome experience.  I ended up finding WAH Nails online, booked an appointment, and then later found out that they are kind of nail art royalty.  The only downside was that the location was nearly an hour away.  The experience at WAH was incredible, but I was so overwhelmed with the excitement of all of the options that I just handed over the reigns to my stylist, figuring she would know best.  It was incredible -- they had so much variety & breadth in designs, colors and styles. I ended up chatting with the artist, intrigued by this growing trend, and she implied that while she loved working at WAH, that freelance might financially be a better option, although not feasible.  My impression was that it takes too much time to coordinate, and in the end isn't really cost efficient.  After I left and headed back to the tube, I had my "AHA" moment when I realized that there is a market for a nail art digital platform, that's seamless and benefits both the artists and consumers.  That's how TopCoat was born.

What is the TopCoat platform?

TopCoat is the only place where you can browse and book nail art!
