A couple of weeks ago, myself along with 15 of my boyfriend's closest friends packed up and left San Francisco behind for a jam-packed, fun-filled 30th birthday weekend celebration in Austin. I expected the city to posses a burgeoning tech scene, attract a colorful artistic community and offer up some of the best bbq and micro brews in the nation, but what I did not not predict, is falling in love with it. The people are amongst the friendliest and least pretnentious in the entire country, even though the demographic is primarily made up of transplants. The vibe is contagiously laid-back, the food, although unabashadly fattening, is extremely delicious, and there is a sense of pride and community that is somewhat hard to detect in other large metropolitan areas. Honestly, Austin is on the short list of other places I can picture myself living. Can't wait to go back!
