Sample Sale Nightmare

Scene from Confessions of a Shopaholic

I had been gearing up for the Rebecca Minkoff sample sale for weeks, anticipating finding a ton of drastically marked down designer goods, basking in my comeuppance and showing off my prize earnings on multiple outfit posts.

Well...my dream was incredibly different from the reality I faced last Saturday morning.  I arrived at the Beach Street Starbucks promptly at 9:30am to meet up with my friend and co-conspirator, Caity, before we were to head down to the Argonaut Hotel for the sample sale.  She was running a little late, due to a cat-related accident, so we decided it was probably best to just connect at the venue.  As I approached the banquet room, where the melee was to ensue, I saw a line, that if stretched out perfectly straight, I swear, could have measured, a mile long.  I took my place, assuring myself that there would be enough inventory for everyone, so not to be intimidated by the massive amount of people and head pounding chattering going on.  Caity had arrived by then and we just casually conversed amongst ourselves until the clock struck 10...and the doors swung open.  You would have thought these women were possessed, as pure determination took over their entire beings.

When Caity and I finally made our way into the space, we were greeted by a stampede, or as my boyfriend likes to say, "pigs at a trough".  Women sprinting with dozens of handbags cradled in their little arms, still delicately wrapped in cellophane, grabbing anything that crossed their path of vision.  It was absolutely nuts and gave me a really disturbing glimpse into what greed and gluttony really look like.

In the end, I did purchase one bag (as seen here), not amazingly discounted, but a lovely color that few people wanted.  I patiently waited my turn, and did not have to cut, elbow, or verbally abuse anyone to get it.

I understand the excitement surrounding  a sale, especially if it's a designer you're loyal to, but I do not respect nor comprehend the utter lack of social consciousness surrounding it.

The moral of the story, is from now on, I will do my scouring of sales on the interwebs, in the privacy of my own home, and on my own time.
