Ulyana Sergeenko

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Ulyana Sergeenko started her career in the fashion industry as a couture shopper, but soon realized her passion was in design, and since 2011, she has been producing her own collections, under the same name.  Being of Russian descent, she became known in industry circles by her ostentatious flare, and soviet inspired ensembles.  Ulyana, having been taught how to sew at a very young age, realized her talent early on, as she would create avante garde designs by simply tweaking the patterns.  She did not come from wealth, so she had to improvise.  Having married her billionaire husband, nearly 10 years ago, her visions of couture have come to materialize and now she is a well-respected designer, showcasing her collections at Paris Couture.  Even though she is now unbelievably affluent, Ulyana is still a workhorse, preferring to oversee every aspect of the design process as opposed to jet-setting, and over indulging.  She is grounded by her roots, something I respect, immensely.

TGIF-Let's Hit the Streets in Moscow!

Friday, February 22, 2013

Moscow, the capital of Russia, is the bustling epicenter of Russian culture and fashion.  Some of the most notable street style icons in the industry, such as Miroslava Duma, Elena Perminova, Anya Ziourova, Vika Gazinskaya and Ulyana Sergeenko all hail from this wealthy metropolitan city and have been labeled by fashion insiders as the "czarinas".  These young women have led the charge in transforming the Moscow street style scene from one that was virtually non-existent into one that is now renown for its fashion risk-takers.  The aesthetic is a reconstruction of high fashion versions of traditional Russian decorative style, including bold patterns and avant garde designs.

Have a great weekend everyone!
