Flea Market Madness!

On Saturday, my boyfriend and I took a brief trip to Treasure Island, in hopes of bringing home a few "treasures" of our own from the flea market.  We were supposed to be looking for a dining room table as well as a dresser to house the rest of my clothing, but of course, I switched gears and made an immediate bee line for the vintage clothing vendors.  I couldn't resist.  I ended up with a fabulous jumpsuit (as shown in yesterday's OOTD) for $15 along with a one-of-a-kind dining room table made from reclaimed wood and a mid-century teak dresser.  All-in-all it was quite a productive day. :)

TGIF-Let's Hit the Streets in Buenos Aires!

The Buenos Aires street style scene is intrinsically European, young, and conscious of trends.  The overall aesthetic is somewhat boho chic, with punches of latin flavor, and other cultural influences all mixed in.  The city is diverse and stylistically unique in the sense that there are a myriad of high-end fashion designers, independent boutiques, and a wealth of vintage finds from local markets to scour through.  If you're planning a trip to this vibrant South American city, be sure to visit the Palermo District, a hub for independent designers; and Galleria Pinta Avenida, a cloister of vintage shops. Buenos Aires is a city that hosts many sub-cultures, one being a burgeoning "hip" young fashion crowd looking to be recognized as a mainstream destination for design and streetwear. Moda Moda Moda!!!

TGIF-Let's Hit the Streets in Portland!

I am making a proclamation.  Portland, Oregon is by far the friendliest city I have EVER had the pleasure of visiting, so it's no wonder the fashion aesthetic emulates this vibe.  The street style scene is eclectic and laid back, sort of a mix between 80's rock and modern hipster.  There are an insane amount of vintage, second hand stores and unique boutiques to scour, specifically in the Hawthorne District.  ShopVintage Portland is an unprecedented guide to the city's retro, antique and vintage design shops. When planning a trip to the "City of Roses", make sure to stop by Frances May for exclusive ready-to-wear designer duds, nosh at The Woodsman Tavern and nest at The Jupiter Hotel.

Trendspotter & Thrift Seeker-Amanda Gilbert!

I had the pleasure of meeting Amanda last year at Coachella, as we have a mutual friend who was celebrating her foray into married domesticity!  I was immediately drawn to Amanda's enviable pin thin frame, her beautiful smile, and effortless style.  She reminded me of a young Carrie Bradshaw...minus the neurosis with men.  As I  proceeded to learn more about her, I realized that her fervor towards fashion encompasses a large part of her everyday life.  She's a West Coast Correspondent for Stylesight, a trend forecasting and analytics industry publication, as well as the small business owner of Dry Vintage+Thrift,  a venture that she runs on Etsy.  I have featured an amazing floral sweater that I purchased from DRY on one of my outfit of the day posts.

I was so pleased that Amanda agreed to chat with me about what inspires her covetable style, what specific details she looks for when choosing items for her shop, and what sound advice she can offer to those interested in working in the fashion industry.

WE WORE WHAT-Q&A With Style Ingenuity, Danielle Bernstein

Fashion blog WE WORE WHAT was created by New York City dweller and style genius, Danielle Bernstein.  Danielle's original idea for WE WORE WHAT was to document young purveyors of New York's street style scene.  Her photographic musings gained notoriety and her popularity garnered her the chance to shoot at New York Fashion Week.   Ironically, she ended up being shot by many notable photographers, and largely due to this experience, concluded that her personal style resonated more with readers.  So, she changed focus, and has developed a burgeoning following as well as actualized her interest in fashion, into a viable business.  Not only is Danielle smart, but she's extremely endearing, humble and supportive of fellow bloggers. She speaks to the 'everyday' gal, seamlessly pairing vintage, designer and mid-range pieces that are accessible and wearable.

She spoke with SF Shop Girl about her style inspirations, her dream collaboration and offered sound advice  to other aspiring fashion bloggers.

Natalie Joos-Play on Patterns Perfection!

Natalie Joos's ingenious play on patterns and mix of vintage and couture makes her, in my book, one of the most enviable stylists in the industry.  Coming to NY, by way of Belgium, she has perspicacity into the business,  having been a model, journalist and now, casting director.  She also recently revived her blog, Tales of Endearment, imparting her loyal followers with personal stories about friends, love, life, style and vintage finds. She exudes self-possession and doesn't accommodate trends or ageist ideals that are palpable in the industry. She's never been one to blend in and neither have I...that's why I can relate to her quirky interpretation of fashion!
